1. Who we are
Guru Job Seeker is an AI-assisted job application tool operated by an individual based in Sydney, Australia. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to being transparent about what we collect and why.
2. What we collect
What we do NOT store
We do not persistently store the content you upload or enter into the tool. This includes:
- Your resume (uploaded as a PDF)
- Job description text you paste into the tool
- AI-generated outputs
This content is transmitted to the AI model during your session and is not written to any database or storage system on our end.
What we do store
- Usage count per IP address — we store a count of how many free runs have been used from your IP address in order to enforce the free run limit. This is stored in a Redis database (Vercel KV) and expires after one year.
- Subscription status — if you subscribe, we store your Stripe subscription ID and its status (active or cancelled) in our database. This allows us to verify your access on each run. We do not store your name or email address ourselves — those are held by Stripe.
- Browser storage (localStorage)— your browser locally stores the number of free runs you've used and your Stripe subscription ID (if you have one). This data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers except when verifying subscription status.
3. How we use your data
We use the data we collect solely to:
- Deliver the service (process your inputs through the AI model)
- Enforce the free run limit and verify paid subscriptions
- Prevent abuse (IP-based rate limiting)
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the service.
4. Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate Guru:
- Anthropic — the AI model that processes your resume and job description to generate outputs. Your session content is sent to Anthropic's API during processing. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to how they handle API data: anthropic.com/privacy.
- Stripe — payment processing. Stripe collects and stores your billing information (name, email, card details) when you subscribe. We do not have access to your card details. Stripe's privacy policy: stripe.com/privacy.
- Vercel — the platform that hosts the application and our Redis database (Vercel KV). Vercel may process request logs and IP addresses as part of normal hosting operations. Vercel's privacy policy: vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
5. Data retention
- IP usage counts: retained for up to 1 year, then automatically deleted.
- Subscription records: retained for up to 2 years to support billing and dispute resolution.
- Resume / job description content: not retained — deleted at end of session.
6. Your rights
Under Australian Privacy Principles (and GDPR if applicable), you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you. Because we collect minimal data and do not hold your name or email address ourselves, most data requests would be directed to Stripe (for billing data) or Vercel (for server logs).
To request deletion of your IP-based usage record from our database, contact us at rhiannonlstevenson@gmail.com with your approximate usage dates. We will action your request within 30 days.
7. Cookies
Guru does not use cookies. We use browser localStorage to store your run count and subscription token locally on your device. This data is not transmitted to third parties and is not used for tracking or advertising.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page when we do. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of any changes.
